Flying Dog Happy Hour at Kramerbooks

Flying Dog CEO Jim Caruso and Anita Thompson, widow of the late Hunter S Thompson will be at Kramerbooks & Afterwords Cafe on Tuesday, May 31, 5-7 p.m. to discuss "the lore behind the labels" of Flying Dog Ales. The brewery has a unique and interesting relationship with the "Gonzo Godfathers," author Hunter S. Thompson and illustrator Ralph Steadman.  In addition to the discussion Anita Thompson will be present with signed copies of The Gonzo Way and Ancient Gonzo Wisdom.  Also on hand will be a few signed copies of "Phlogs," the coffee table photobook of Flying Dog founder George Stranahan's work which will be given away to those in attendance who exhibit the Gonzo spirit. DC Brau Cask Night: First "The Public" Tapped Ever!

Our official Rustico SAVOR week kick-off begins appropriately with an ode to hometown brewing. On Tuesday, May 31 we will be pouring the FIRST CASK of DC BRAU The Public to ever be tapped! This increasingly iconic American Pale Ale promises to be a revelation from our beer engine... and will be a completely new take on the beer itself. The fellas at DC Brau have added some fresh juniper berries to the firkin for a nuanced layer of deliciousness! Birch and Barley Beer Dinner with Sierra Nevada

At Birch & Barley/ Churchkey, one requisite effect of our commitment to craft beer and craft food is our unending commitment to collaboration. Our Beer Director, Greg Engert, our Executive Chef, Kyle Bailey, and our Pastry Chef, Tiffany MacIsaac certainly work together nightly to craft pairings for our guests, but they also join craft brewing luminaries in hosting some unforgettable blowout dinners at Birch & Barley. And we are ecstatic to continue this collaboration with the inimitable Sierra Nevada Brewing Company for a no-holds-barred beer and food experience to kick-off a week of events leading up to SAVOR! Flying Dog Brewery and Lagunitas Brewing Company present: "MPaired"

Flying Dog and Lagunitas, the craft breweries well known for standing up, speaking out and occasionally causing a little trouble have teamed up to showcase their portfolios at Pizzeria Paradiso (M St) for the night. (5 pm to close)  The event, aptly named for the street where it will take place and in reflection of the evening, "MPaired," will feature 5 beers from each brewery.  Each beer will be paired with the closest corresponding beer style from the opposite brewery's portfolio to be tasted in tandem with Pizzeria Paradiso food pairings.  Brewery representatives and brewers will be on hand to guide attendees through each pairing.  This event is sure to be an excellent celebration of American Craft Beer from across the United States.  Flying Dog and Lagunitas will be giving out free gifts and memorabilia, as well as a commemorative glass from each brewery.  Contact Pizzeria Paradiso - M St for more information. Walk the Plank:Heavy Seas Beer Tasting at Bier Baron

A Toast to SAVOR at RFD

Flying Dog Brewery and The Big Hunt present: "Death by Hops and A Smoke"

Our second event leading up to the beer & food experience that is SAVOR will welcome Big Boss Brewing Company of Raleigh, North Carolina! Big Boss is coming to DC for SAVOR, and will be offering our guests an amazing opportunity to try  EIGHT of their excellent craft beers, beers not typically seen in Washington, DC! Brewer's Reception at Churchkey

Flying Dog will be hosting a reception at ChurchKey after the Backyard Symposium held at the brewery in Frederick.  Flying Dog is inviting the panelists from the Symposium to put beer on draft that night at Churchkey in a celebration of American Craft Beer.  Breweries include Flying Dog, Devil's Backbone and Ommegang.  Also at Churchkey that evening is a tap takeover for Short's Brewing Co from Michigan.  This will be an evening of excellent craft beer from across the United States. 30 Short's Brewing Beers on DRAFT at Churchkey!

One of our favorite things about a huge spread of draft lines is that every now and then we can do some crazy, almost unimaginable, events around a ridiculous amount of craft drafts from a particular producer. And on the Thursday before SAVOR, CK will be handing over 1/2 of the draft lines to one of the most innovative and talked-about brewers in the USA, Short's Brewing Company from Northern Michigan! No beers from Short's have EVER been in DC before, and on this day we will have 30 different Short's brews on DRAFT, each as creative, complex and inviting as the other! The breweries founder, Joe Short, will also be in the house talking about his mission to liberate beer from the shackles of generic macro-fizz! Our pre-SAVOR festivities roll on this Thursday as we welcome another legend of American Craft Brewing, Harpoon Brewing from Massachusetts and Vermont! Beermuda Triangle at The Black Squirrel

Explore the mysterious Beermuda Triangle: where beverages disappear before your eyes!  During SAVOR weekend, June 3 and 4, breweries from three of the country's most influential beer states will be joining forces to create a Craft Beer Headquarters at The Black Squirrel in Adams Morgan.  New Holland will be joined by Colorado brewery Oskar Blues as well as Firestone Walker and Lagunitas breweries, both from California. The Black Squirrel will be pouring beer from all four breweries throughout the weekend, brewery staff from each of these companies will be in the house after the SAVOR sessions both Friday and Saturday night.  The kitchen at The Black Squirrel will be creating some pairings to go along with all the great beer on display throughout the weekend. This is a come as you are, pay as you go event, so no advanced notice is necessary if you're planning to join us at The Black Squirrel. Hope to see you there! Craft Beer Press Conference

Flying Dog will be hosting a press conference at 3 pm at the National Press Club with the Brewers Association on the "American Craft Beer Revolution."  This event is open to the public and complimentary craft beer from participating brewers will be served.  At time of press, Jim Caruso, CEO of Flying Dog, Sam Calagione President and Founder of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery, one of the Grossmans, Founders and Owners of Sierra Nevada (schedule pending on which one) and Rick Kempden of Bieren Co, a European wholesaler of American Craft Beer will be in attendance to discuss the "American Craft Beer Revolution." Baltimore takes over at Elephant and Castle on Pennsylvania Ave. A tap takeover is just what it sounds like - for one night, all the taps will be pouring Heavy Seas beers. Evolution Tap Takeover at The Big Hunt

Evolution and The Big Hunt have teamed up to deliver an amazing selection of Evolution brews, and intend to give craft beer drinkers a great exploratory experience. Taps will include, but not be limited to, the following: Primal Pale Ale, Exile ESB, Lot 6 DIPA, Lot 3 IPA, Lucky 7 Porter, Menagerie 5, Spring 2011 Migration, Haymaker, Summer Session, Rise Up Stout and The Syndicate Saison (a special collaboration with local DC start up brewery 3 Stars Brewing Company), plus an as of yet undisclosed gravity driven cask on the bar. Cigar City Brewing Saturday Matinee Meet & Greet & Draft Feature at Churchkey

Churchkey is ecstatic to welcome Joey Redner, founder of Tampa Bay's white-hot Cigar City Brewing Company, for an afternoon of revelry before SAVOR's second session commences! Starting at 3pm, we will be pouring a number of Cigar City DRAFTS and Joey will be regaling us with tales of Floridian Craft Brewing and the emergence of his little brewery onto the national scene of Craft Beer! Six different breweries, those with whom we've worked all SAVOR Week for events, in attendance, each speaking to their particular beer and course. A great opportunity to hang out with Ken Grossman (Founder of Sierra Nevada) and Father Thomas X. Rogue & Oyster Party at Birch & Barley

This includes access to the 30 different Rogue drafts, 5 different Rogue casks, and a host of cocktails crafted with Rogue Spirits as well. This will also be the DC Debut of two drafts: Rogue Creamery 75th Anniversary Ale and Chatoe Rogue: Floor Malt Ale. We will be shucking tons of Yaquina Bay Oysters from the bay upon which the Rogue Ales Brewery is situated, offering a host of Rogue Creamery cheeses, including some made with Rogue Ales brews... Here are the Cheeses from Rogue Creamery we will serve: Rogue Farms Freedom Cheddar, Chocolate Stout Cheddar, Morimoto Soba Cheddar, bunch of Rogue Creamery's wonderful Blue Cheeses. We�ll be featuring a vast spectrum of Rogue spirits and of course, beers to pair with it all. $95 per person, all inclusive.  Brunch runs from noon to 3pm.
